New AROS ABIv0 base system release

Just a couple of days ago, a new version of AROS was released.

It's called "ABIv0_20250313-1" and serves as a base for possible distributions, or your own AROS installation. Currently, it's only the 32-bit / i386 variant, but the 64-bit / x86_64 is expected to follow soon.

There's a long list of bugfixes and updates, among which are:

  • several improvements to audio system components (AHI-handler, ahi.device, sound device drivers, ...)
  • improvements to muimaster.library (Zune GUI)
  • improved file-system support (afs, sfs, ntfs, fat, cdrom)
  • better hardware support (ACPI, pciusb.device, nvme.device, power/battery management, ...)
  • ...and many more.

Odyssey web browser, and AROS ABIv0 32bit update

Just days ago, two very welcome updates have been released.

The WWW is big, and Amiga/AROS web browsers are rare. One of said updates is a new version of web browser Odyssey, for AROS ABIv0 32bit. (This is the initial x86 i386 flavor of AROS which is probably running on most computers running AROS.) Among the new features is the updated rendering engine (WebKit), and a new media player with hardware acceleration, which enables Odyssey to playback YouTube videos (again).

The other of said updates is Krzysztof 'deadwood' Smiechowicz's second update ("20220318-1-U2") to AROS ABIv0 32bit 20220318-1, which is required by the new version Odyssey. It contains changes backported from the more modern (still somewhat experimental) ABIv1 branch of AROS.

AROS Vision "Sunrise" released!

Oh very nice, yet another AROS distro proven alive: amiga-news.de reports that "AROS Vision" got updated

AROS Vision is an m68k based distro created by Olaf Schönweiß.

Apart from newly added apps "AmiDream" and "AmiTranslate", we do not have a lot of information about this latest release, and the download link on AROS vision's homepage currently points to a file named "aros_2020_Basis_UAE.7z" (2020?) - but an updated AROS distro is good news nontheless. More details can probably expected over the coming days.

Go to AROS Vision homepage for latest info and downloads:

"AROS One" v1.1 released

UPDATE 2019-07-30:
Ops, sorry! I've just received message from the author of this new distro - it's not Andreas Magerl, but "Spadoni Carlo" / AMIGASYSTEM! Thanks for the info!

It's been only a couple of days since we reported about new AROS distro "AROS One" v1.0, and it's already got an update.

http://eab.abime.net/attachment.php?attachmentid=63707&stc=1&d=1562855170

Very nice, AROS One has been released in version 1.1. Even nicer: this time a m68k version has been added!

Note that the m68k version is currently aimed at emulators and hasn't been tested on real hardware so far. Also it's supplied in form of a hardfile, which can't be used directly on a real Amiga.

Tutorial videos and are provided, along with ROMs and WinUAE config file for the m68k version.

Little is known about this distro so far, so maybe it's best you give it a try yourself!

Go to English Amiga Board's "AROS One" v1.1 forum pages for more information, video links, and file downloads:
